Why Pillar

Built by an owner. Designed for owners.

Prince Eboka, Founder and Managing Member of Pillar & Associates

Prince EbokaFounder & Managing Member

I am a business owner and private investor first.

I have spent over a decade building businesses, investing, and running a boutique real estate private equity firm. I started keeping my own books because I wanted to better understand the financial health of the businesses I owned (not simply hand them off and hope the financial reports were accurate).

I have also experienced firsthand exactly how unclear books can create serious consequences for owners in growing businesses. One of the most important lessons I have learned (and one of the most expensive) is that when the books aren't clear, the owner isn't clear. Poor financial visibility leads to bad decisions, unnecessary stress, and real problems when investors, lenders, partners, or tax professionals need answers.

That experience is why I built Pillar & Associates. Not every bookkeeper or accountant approaches the numbers the way an owner does. We do.

Common Questions

Our books are a disaster and we are years behind. Is that a problem?

No — it is the most common way clients arrive, and it is exactly what the Financial Health Check is for. We would rather see the real file than a cleaned-up version of it, because the mess tells us what actually needs fixing and how to price it. Nobody here is going to be surprised or judgmental about it.

Do you specialize in a particular industry?

We work with small businesses across a range of industries. Our focus is not a particular industry but a particular stage of business: owners whose businesses have outgrown basic bookkeeping and need accurate, timely financial reporting. Our operating background includes real estate, healthcare, and other complex business environments, but we welcome qualified businesses across industries.

Do I need QuickBooks Online?

It is our standard, and most engagements run on it. If you are already there, we work in your existing file. If you are on something else, we will tell you honestly whether moving is worth the disruption — sometimes it is not, and we will say so rather than create a project.

What does bookkeeping cost?

Engagements start at $750 per month. Most fall between $1,000 and $3,500, set by entity count, transaction volume, and complexity. You get a fixed monthly fee, quoted after the Financial Health Check — never before. Cleanup and catch-up work is scoped and quoted separately.

Do you prepare tax returns?

No. We are a bookkeeping and financial reporting firm, not a CPA firm, and we do not provide tax preparation, audit, attest, or investment advisory services. We produce a closed, documented year-end package your CPA can file from directly, and we work alongside your preparer so nothing gets rebuilt twice. If you do not have a CPA, we can point you toward one.

What do you need from us each month?

Read-only access to your banking, card, payroll, and merchant systems, plus roughly fifteen minutes to answer questions on anything we cannot determine from documentation. The request list is built once during onboarding and then runs on a schedule. Chasing you for receipts every month is a design failure, not a normal cost of doing business.

Are our financials and access credentials secure?

Access is read-only wherever the work allows it, and it is granted through each platform's native accountant or user-permission system rather than through shared logins. Documents are held in access-controlled storage, and all access is revoked on the day an engagement ends. We will walk through the specifics on the call.

Do you work with clients outside Arizona?

Yes. We are based in Phoenix and work with owners nationwide. Everything from the Health Check through the monthly close runs remotely on secure, access-controlled systems, and review calls happen by video.
